Also Working on implementing the Urban Agenda in Bangladesh as a part of World Urban Campaigning.

EWB Bangladesh was Working in Rajshahi city in slum Sanitation project. Now EWB Bangladesh is taking step to implement the Urban Agenda.
Discuss With Local Govt. Representative:  Local government may be loosely defined as a public organization authorized to decide and administer a limited range of public policies within a relatively small territory which is a subdivision of a regional or national government. Local government is at the bottom of a pyramid of governmental institutions.
We the EWB Bangladesh is always trying to discuss with local govt. representative for any project. The representative always tell us about the implementation of urban agenda. They are eager to work with people specially general people to development the whole nation and for the rapid urbanization. Our discussion with one of local Govt. representative which is belongs to Rajshahi city 24 No. Ward.
Discussed issues:

1. Governance and Partnerships
2. Planning and Design
3. Finance
4. Land, Housing and Services
5. Environment and climate issues
6. Health and Safety
7. Economy and Livelihoods
8. Education
9. Technology
10. Monitoring and Evaluation
11. Human settlement
12. Inclusive urban Development
13. Poverty Reduction, increase quality of life of slunm people

The representative said that, We commit to urban development that is mass people related, protects our city, country & planet and gender-responsive, and to the realization of all human rights and fundamental freedoms, facilitating living together, ending all forms of discrimination and violence, poverty and empowering all individuals and communities, while enabling their full and meaningful participation. We further commit to promote culture and respect for diversity, and equality as key elements in the humanization of our city and human settlements.

Discuss With General People: EWB Bangladesh is always concern about the comfortness of people. When we discuss with the people about the urban agenda they are eager about this matter. They told that they are happy about the rapid development of urbanization. But still have some lacking. The general people have limited knowledge about the new urban agenda. They hope that this lacking of rapid urbanization will be overcome very soon. They are getting much support from the local govt. representative but they want some more support and explanation of all works from the representative.

Relation Between General People & Local Govt. impact on modern Urbanization: if the local govt. representative & general people are working together hand to hand shoulder to shoulder the proper urbanization will be grown very soon. In this relationship one can not change the urban development lonely. And this relationship the local area will find their urban agenda and with this continuity a country will be rapid urbanized.
Asia is the foremost victim of rapid urbanization on the global forum and it is happening throughout the region with great pace. Not even a single country has been out of reach of globalization and urbanization. Either it’s East Asia or South Asia, urbanization is coloring every city in its track to some extent. Urbanization, in general terms, is the migration of the people coming from peri-urban and rural areas to  central city for their social and economic development.
Urbanization is a population shift from rural to urban areas, “the gradual increase in proportion of people living in urban areas”, & the ways in which each society adapts to the change. it predominantly results in the physical growth of urban areas, be it horizontal or vertical. Urbanization, migration & development are inter linked. the relationships are a two-way phenomenon. With each pair one variable may be the cause as well as the effect of the other.
PROSPECTS OF URBANIZATION:
Ø Education: Establishing school will make the people of the area educated and self conscious. also it is helpful to get the better job and better future for life.
Ø Health Sector: It is estimated about 3200 metric tons of solid waste is produced per day. only about 50% is collected by the city authority for proper disposal. the sanitation management is grossly inadequate, posing a tremendous health challenge. By proper urbanization people will be aware or proper sanitation system so they can be free from various diseases.
Ø Water Supply: 70% of Dhaka’s population has now access to piped water. future development of surface water sources is in danger because of industrial pollution. arrangement of pure drinking water will save people from various diseases.
Ø Electrification: Load shedding, especially in summer, is common due to insufficient peak load capacity. Electrification plays an important role in our development. with this people can enjoy all the modern facilities.
Ø Road Communication: By establishing road communication an undeveloped area may be connect with a developed area. so people can move from one area to another area easily. market for agricultural products increases. this will help the people of both the areas and another area also. In Dhaka city at every intersection jam is common phenomenon. it is happening because of increase of private vehicles than the road width. so for better transportation should be by public bus and rickshaw and private vehicles should be decreased. Besides rickshaw has contributed to heavy traffic congestion and poses a severe safety hazard.
Ø Construction of Planned Residential Houses: In absolute terms there are 8 million urban poor people at present. the majority of slum dwellers are under the poverty line. Dhaka’s land prices are comparable to those in suburban New York or London. Because of this it is impossible for the poor to afford. so land prices and also house rent should be affordable. besides by improving living standard the people will construct their houses in a planed way. When the development activities will start there will be more job opportunities for people.
